Postcards from Rome
... and some exciting news!
A few scenes from Rome last weekend, seen through my daughter’s eyes on a break from her uni studies.
It made me think about a series of posts I ran on Instagram last summer, celebrating everyday things that bring a little beauty, joy and love to our lives.
I may not have gotten to Rome last weekend, but I did find beauty, joy and love in other places:
A school hall on Saturday afternoon, watching our youngest play a John Williams movie medley in his youth orchestra’s end of term show. Will says he wasn’t teary during the Star Wars theme (right).
Sitting on the blue bedspread of my mother’s nursing home room, watching her gaze in wonder as the helium birthday balloon I’d taken her bobbed around the ceiling.
She hadn’t remembered it was her birthday.
On the floor of our living room, overdue a clean, as the afternoon sun streamed through the French windows and somehow did the job just fine.
At our kitchen table, as our six month old kitten clambered over upturned chairs, which became a makeshift climbing frame.
Finding joy, even when everything seems out of place.
Finally! Something I’ve been playing with over the weekend … you can now read The Story So Far in the new Substack app for iPhone!
It’s very cool.
With the app, you’ll have a dedicated inbox for this and other Substacks you subscribe to, with no risk of updates hitting your spam and getting lost in your email.
The Substack app is currently available for iOS (or you can join the Android waitlist here).
I have to say, I’m loving it already.
Much love, Jen XX
